DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

Arthrosamid is a polyacrylamide hydrogel developed as a long-acting intra-articular injection for the treatment of osteoarthritis in humans.

Development of Arthrosamid commenced after the generation of impressive clinical data with Arthramid Vet in the treatment of lameness in horses. Arthrosamid has the effect of thickening the synovial membrane, thereby providing increased cushioning and other therapeutic benefits to patients with osteoarthritis. Patients benefit from both pain relief and improved mobility. Arthrosamid has been used in the treatment of more than 200 patients in numerous joints. Arthrosamid is currently under clinical research with the intent of a registration in Europe for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Rectamid is a polyacrylamide hydrogel being developed as a minimally invasive, effective and safe treatment for faecal incontinence.

Based upon Contura’s proprietary hydrogel technology, Rectamid seeks to address the need for a treatment that is more effective than conservative management, but much less invasive than complex and expensive surgical procedures such as sphincter reconstruction or sacral nerve stimulation.

Arthramid Vet is a polyacrylamide hydrogel developed as a long acting intra-articular injectable for the treatment of lameness in horses and under development for the treatment of osteoarthritis in companion animals.

Arthramid Vet has demonstrated impressive therapeutic benefits in the treatment of lameness in horses. A single injection of Arthramid Vet has been shown to cure lameness in more than 80% of horses treated and its effects have been shown to last for at least 2 years. This benefit results from the demonstrated thickening of the synovial membrane achieved with the product. Early evidence indicates that the product also has a significant therapeutic benefit in companion animals with osteoarthritis. Arthramid Vet is shortly due to commence registration in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Bulkamid for VUR is a polyacrylamide hydrogel for the treatment of Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR) in children.

Bulkamid for VUR is designed to be injected into one or both vesicoureteral junctions to treat underdeveloped ureteral values in children and prevent the back flow of urine from the bladder into the ureters, or kidneys in more serious cases. In multiple clinical trials, Bulkamid for VUR has demonstrated durability to at least three years with no long-term complications reported.
